Mgr Philip Shryane

My name is Mgr Philip Shryane, known to all as Fr Philip, I grew up in the parish of All Souls in Peterborough Fr Philipand went to seminary at St Mary’s College Oscott.

I was ordained on 28th June 1975, one of the last priests ordained for the old Diocese of Northampton. My first posting was to Holy Family Parish, Langley, Slough. The Diocese of East Anglia was formed in 1976 and I requested a move to the new diocese. Since then I have served in St Pancras and St Mary’s parishes Ipswich, Sacred Heart parish in Dereham, St George’s in Norwich and then St Edmund’s, Bury St Edmunds.

I left Bury St Edmunds in September 2014, the Bishop gave me four months sabbatical leave which I spent working in Siem Reap in Cambodia, a parish twinned with St Edmund’s. I returned from Cambodia in January 2015 and moved into St Mary’s a week later.

I also serve the Diocese as Vicar for Finance and I help our deaf community by signing Mass for them from time to time. I look forward to working with the people of St Mary’s communities and the wider community of Great Yarmouth.
